Has anyone plasti-dipped the ugly side panels on the gen 2's? or heard of someone who has? I debated vinyl wrapping them, but plasti-dipping seems easier. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I actually did it to mine last week. I did about 4 coats of dip with 2 coats of glossifier. Went all the way around, both bumpers and the doors

Nice. Im still debating on what to do with them. Im looking at getting my 2nd gen painted and doing a camo vinyl on the bumpers and side panels, but a buddy of mine suggested just plasti-dipping the truck. Whole truck would be expensive (tho much less than full body work and paint) and very time consuming but it got me thinking about just doing the bumpers etc. How did it turn out for you? worth the time?

It took me about 4hours total time to dip the trim and bumpers. And it turned out great.

Everything black on my truck is plasti-dip. It holds up pretty good, and can be pressure washed without worry. If you don't like it or decide to do something different, it comes off in a big sheet. I would give it a shot, even if it is just to hold you over until you can find something even more permanent.

So not a fan of Plasti-dip. The vinyl wrap will look so much more professional.

I just don't understand. If you're going to go to all the time and trouble to Plasti-dip it, why not just paint it? Some adhesion promoter, some automotive spray paint and a bit of prep time will give you great results.

That's the thing.... no time or trouble to put it on.. no prep.... I've had it on my trim and wheels on my Ex for 4 or 5 years, still looks new, and my Jeep has had it on the trim , grill and wheels since about a month after I bought it 3 years ago. Leaves a nice matte finish... Takes 4 coats and 15 minutes to dry between coats, and you can do it in your driveway during the commercials of the game.... Plus a few years down the line when you want to sell it, just peel it off, and your rig is back to stock for the next guy.
But if you don't like dip, it's understandable if you would rather paint it.
Lots of people around me have put that camo vinyl on.... they all have very faded white vinyl on their truck now... must have bought pretty cheap stuff.

I just took possession of a 2005 SSV Expy. It's white, and worn out. Thinking about camo or OD Green. Been doing some research here: www.dipyourcar.com

Take a look at the plasti dip of the month. Some of these guys get real creative. The Nissan Rouge camo'd came out great.

Plastidipping is ok only if your not into hardcore off roading I plasti dipped my wheels my brushguard my roof rack my tire gate and bike rack and tail light guards and in about a yrs time I had a lot of it peeling off...im an experienced painter I prepped it and all and it didn't hold up to the beatings so I took it off and used the paint that I used on my truck and its been better off...

Here's what mine looks like after dipping the faded black trim. Its been on for a couple weeks now. Took it thru the gas station car wash and no peeling.
