Play with steering wheel

So for a while now i have had just a slight play with my steering wheel and i talked to my brother in law and he says its the u joints in the shaft is there a way to tighten it up or do i have to just by the new u joint?

If that's your problem, it must be replaced. You can observe it and look for play. The play can be in several places besides the steering shaft also.

Play in the steering wheel could mean a few things, including your rack and pinion being worn out.

I've replaced that lower steering shaft with u joint on my 2003. That was because it was binding, not due to play. Don't think play is caused by that. When they get old they corrode and get sticky, you can spray lubricant on them to loosen up for temp fix.
