I recently purchased a 2003 expy and I'm noticing a heating issue. Even after the engine has warmed up and my dash temp gauge is sitting right in the middle, the front vents blow luke warm air. Warm enough to take the chill off eventually, and even defrost the windows, but not real warm/hot. The air coming from the rear vents seems to be warmer. My antifreeze level checks out fine.

If I turn on the recirculate button, the air that is coming out of the vents becomes much warmer after a few seconds. And then I can get the temperature to a point where I have to turn the fan/temp down, because it's actually getting hot in the vehicle.

Does this sound like a blend door problem. And that is why the air is lukewarm. And is there a separate door that closes when you turn on recirculate which would effectively block out the cold air that should be blocked by the blend door. This is just a guess and I may be way off base.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Matt the system has the blend door which is electrically operated and a few doors that are vacuum operated Check your heater hoses into and out of the heater cores, They should be about even temps also check the hoses along their entire length for any cold spots That would be a indication of a blocked/clogged core.
