When I first purchased my truck (used) both mirrors folded backwards a la Regan (from The Exorcist). The service manager took the vehicle in and claimed to have re-calibrated them. No problems since in nearly 2 years, aside from the fact that one folds a little slower than the other.

The aftermarket unit I got from koolvue on amazon is faster than the oem. I will try the calibration process again. Thx for chiming in everyone.

Thank you Jeff! I had given up on fixing this mirror for now and after reading this gave it another shot. I had to manually move the mirror and re-calibrate it. After doing this a few times I lined it up correctly and now they're both working properly.

Thanks again,
Chris

Attempted to re-calibrate multiple times. The driver's is great, but the passenger continues to go past center, and it moves itself whenever the door is closed as it is loose enough to move freely. I get all of the "clicking" etc with calibration and it moves with motor, but so loose it wont stay put.

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like that one one is ready to be replaced. You might want to talk to the original poster. I think they were looking to make gears for the mirrors.

Hey guys just an update here. We are going ahead with the Ford Pick up and Expedition series, looking like we will start with 09-14 F150 and 07-14 Expeds.

If anyone has a spare mirror or wants to send 1 in to be fixed, please contact me at [email protected]

Anyone who helps will receive free upgraded parts.

Thanks,

Paul

we have an Exped mirror en route to the shop, we will tear it down and get into the plastic guts of this thing in short order. We will have proper brass gears and motors made, so stay tuned :)

Just FYI - yesterday I received the 1st samples of the brass gears for expedition standard power fold mirrors. I am testing this now so I will be updating soon. The gears look brilliant, will see how they perform ...

Excellent! While on the one hand we don't want to suffer model-wide catastrophic mirror failure, it sure is GREAT that you are investing the time to make some good replacements available if needed by us...so thanks and I hope it works out very good for you!

2010 Expedition EL Limited

One side folds perfectly but the other side nothing. When I manually move it in it snaps a bit in place but will not fold out when I resync it 4 times as it notes in the manual.

To check what parts might be broken, how would I take it apart? I see F150 videos on youtube but not sure if the same.

F150 slightly different than Exped but same idea.

I will have the brass gears by end of week, I will post a DIY article on the site too. This is really the only thing in the whole system that can go wrong, so replacing with brass gear should pretty much end the need to buy entire new mirrors.

Guys we do now have the brass gears made up for the F150, 2009-2014 non-towing power folding mirrors as well as 07-14 Expedition.

So far I have tested a drivers side unit, works great. Does someone have a passenger side unit they can send to me, or at least the motor from it ? Im not sure if motor is same polarity or opposite. The Expedition unit I have is from a passenger side and the motor polarity is opposite.

Currently, we are just offering the brass spur gears, but we will soon also offer the replacement high torque motors too.

If you can help with the passenger side F150 unit, or if you have any Ford power folding mirror from 05-08, or have disassembled any tow mirror and can assist, EMAIL me. We will provide freebies for those that can help !

I have purchased a set of motorcycle blinkers to add to the front side of the mirror. The idea is to give more visibility from the front as well as the side. The mirrors have LED blinkers in them, but only face the rear. I will tie the front/side facing blinker in to the OEM blinker, a simple upgrade.

We're getting a bit OT, but I did the same thing on a Mercury Grand Marquis using a simple LED "bolt." It's blindingly bright.

Bolt mount LED? now THAT is a freaking awesome idea.

Any heat issues if run continuously for hours on end mounted thru a hole in plastic?

They don't generate much heat at all! Just be aware the "warm white" units are quite yellow in appearance -- probably around 2300K. I do wish they were a bit more white. I think ideal would be more like 3300K.
