SO i bought a 1200 watt power converter to install in my truck. The purpose of this is i am attempting to reassemble a 1966 Mustang in a storage unit where no electricity is available to me. So what i need from this power converter and my 2001 Expy with 5.4 and new battery (just a OEM replacement nothing special) is to run maybe a small Shop Vac or a small pancake Air compressor. I know the best option here would be to have the truck running while using these items. not planning on extended use of these items just short intermittent use. Does anybody have any input as to whether or not this will work. Any tips to avoid severely damaging my trucks wiring? Also note my plan is to Install the converter as it is needed and disconnect it completely when not in use as it has short 6 AWG cables to connect to the battery. i appreciate any input!

Have you given any thought to look for a used generator that would serve your purpose? You could then sell it when you no longer need it. That way you wouldn't be putting any load on the expedition and risk any wiring problems.

It all depends on the start up load required for each appliance. A generator is the better choice since it will be a sine wave and not square wave from the inverter. I think the most you can pull with a 1200 watt converter is around 10 amps @ 120v.

Generators around here seem to be still expensive even used ones around 5-600, plus the storage unit does have issues with noise. And most generaotrs ive heard are pretty darn loud. But ill keep searching.

You can get a small one from harbor freight for under 100 bucks. Cheap but may work for your needs without much investment.
