I know this has been discussed on here but I have not seen this problem. Searched and read through multiple postings.
My 2014 Limited started having issues with the driver side running board motor. I found a vendor that sold the motor and bracket together for $156. Ordered one and installed. It worked for a few cycles then started acting as if something was binding. When the door was opened the board would extend but when door closed it would start to retract then go back to the down position. Seemed like the bushings were very tight so I greased them with white lithium grease, helped a little but started acting up again. Received a replacement from the vendor and this did the same thing. Notice when the motor would activate, the motor would move. Found all the bolts to be loose. Removed the unit to tighten the bolts and the "wedge" nut fell out. Found a crack in the bracket. Checked the first unit and found bolts loose and also a crack in the bracket. After much back and forth discussion with the vendor, finally got a third replacement from the vendor. Checked all bolt and tightened. Plugged the motor in, did not bolt it to vehicle. Motor runs and extends but retracts right away. I noticed on the first 2 units the "bumpers" smashed out possibly due to the motor twisting. Is there some sensor that needs to be reset? What is the torque of the bolts? Could I have ovr torqued them now?

First off, I absolutely do not know anything about these. If your still reading, it may use the stop, or bump to learn. That last motor maybe retracting because it never contacted the stop. It’s like a built in protection so it doesn’t over run it’s gearing. I’d go ahead and mount it and also clean and lube every pivot point on the whole running board. See if it functions normal.

I wouldn’t think there is anything to be overtorqued. I’ve had mine off and cleaned/lubed them multiple times. Can you remove the magnetic cover from the motor and spin them several times up and down and lube everything? The magnetic cover only goes on one way or the motor works backwards, retracting when the door is open snd deploying when closed. I spray the hell out of the hinges front and back with a power washer when detailing and use WD40 dry lube on everything and electrical contact cleaner inside the motor covers.
