Hello everyone, first time here. I bought an 2005 expedition about a year ago, its got about 160,000 on it and still runs really good. But last week at some point the air suspension stopped working. I came out one morning and it looked like it was sitting on the ground. So having a baby and all last week we decided to take it to the local shop. Well they got back with me and said the compressor was out and it was going to cost about $1,000. So I brought it home and ordered a compressor.

Today I installed the new compressor, really easy. Turned everything back on nothing. So I went back to the internet and started reading a lot about it. I read to check the relay. So I found what I thought was the relay (There are two cables coming to the compressor one from under neath and is circular and one sitting on top and is a box which I believe is the relay but not sure).

So I took the gray cover off of it and was just playing with it when I pinched it and I guess the connection I made started the compressor. I was like ok cool maybe I have found something. The compressor will not run by itself only with me pinching the relay. So I held it for awhile to see if it would raise the rear end, it did not. But when I was seeing if it was I could hear air leaking. I quickly located the problem and it is where the one hose splits to two to go to both shocks. If I held it just right it would stop. So I know some air is making it to that point. But I would think the bags would have filled somewhat.

From what I can tell I have at least two problems. One the leak and two the relay, or something causing the relay not to work on its own.

I am at a loss what to do next. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks all!!!!!

Hi, welcome to the forum, happy to have you here!

I must say, to some it's an extreme preference but the BEST fix for the air suspension giving constant issues is a simple coil spring/strut swap... Hundreds of Expy owners and Navi owners do them and I just ordered a kit from eBay myself (to replace my worn out coil spring as my truck doesn't have air suspension) and it should only take a few hours to install. Here's the link if you'd like to opt for this option...

Spend around $300 and end the problems right there. I'm afraid this is about as far as I go on knowing how to solve your problems as well, sorry I couldn't help you out more than offering an alternate idea but I'm sure someone will jump in with another solution. Good luck!

I concur...conversion swap and I did it to my truck...now I wont ever have to worry about the many components that can fail and trying to troubleshoot them

I appreciate the reply's. If I were to go this route besides the coil springs is there anything else I would need? whether thats parts or tools?

And then what would be the steps to ensure that the vehicle wouldn't throw air suspension codes.

Thanks again!!

That kit I sent you on eBay is all you I believe... Just struts coils and shocks and then I think you're all set but I have never replaced bags before... Possibly poke around in the forum and find a thread on the conversion from air to springs otherwise start your own new thread asking about the conversion and someone will jump in
