Hi Everyone,

I just recently bought a pair of front suspension shocks to fit on my 2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Baur RWD (without Air suspension). The shocks that I purchased are KYB 341605. Supposedly everywhere on the internet these shocks will fit my vehicle. However, when my mechanic was trying to install them, he told me that they did not fit and you can see here from the picture.
Since these were shipped to Saudi Arabia, of course I can't take them back so I need to know which vehicles do they actually fit and maybe I can put them up for sale. These were supposed to be for the Front.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Your research checks out with what I see, KYB 341605 should fit. I can't tell from the picture why it doesn't fit.

Is there a different # stamped on the strut housing? I'm wondering if possibly the struts you received were in a box that was labeled correctly, but contained the wrong strut.

Thanks for replying. If you look at the picture and see the bottom part of the shock, the new one on the right side of the picture seems to be thicker at the bottom. I am not sure if that makes a difference since I'm mechanically illiterate. There is a sticker on the shock and it matches the number.

What kind of mechanic is this? KYB's are built different than the stock shocks. They are a twin tube design. Their gas chamber and valve body working area are just designed different. In the picture, your mechanic hasn't even taken the shipping strap off, or disassembled the stock shock to fit the spring and top bearing mount to the KYB shock. The KYBs will work fine, might need to find a better mechanic though.

Usually I buy the shock and spring as a complete unit to avoid that death-defying spring compressor trauma!

Thanks guys for your reply. I will probably try and sell these or keep them until I need to replace my front shocks again.

I also can't see from the photo what won't fit. The lower bushing appears (within what I can tell just from the photo) like its equivalent; spring seat appears correct height vs previous; top of piston body appears to be same height vs lower bushing vs previous; mechanic hasn't removed compression strap which will allow the piston shaft to extend (strap wouldn't be used if it wasn't needed to compress the shaft into the piston body, they'd have omitted that). Looks like correct swap part to me.
