Turns out my gem is going out the cruise control ,4wd, keyless entry, and wipers only work when they want to.Does anybody know the part number for a gem that has 4awd. I can see this has been a problem in the past as when I was checking the fuse box the bolts are loose where someone had the lower dash apart before. Also where exactly is the windshield leak located that everyone talks about I want to make sure to fix that before replacing the gem.

Best to just get a new windshield. It is usually on the drivers side, and it has to do with the seal that holds the window in place. You can use compressed air and spray it inside the windshield while feeling outside for the leak. But still it is probably best to just have the glass replaced. Also be careful that, depending on the model of truck, you get a GEM that has the right 4WD functions. 97-98 have 2H, A4WD, 4H, 4L. 99-02 have just A4WD, 4H, 4L. Hopefully that helps.

Turns out the moron previous owner sealed the windshield with rtv and replaced the 4wd gem with a 2wd module which was reeking havoc with all kinds of stuff.Replaced the windshield and installed the right gem now everything works great. Also had to get a new wiper stalk 3 times from auto zone to get one that actually worked.

The "wiper stalk" aka multifunction switch, was replaced 3 times on my 99 XLT 4x4, twice under warranty and the third time under recall to cure the "phantom wiper" condition where the wipers would make a pass when hitting bumps or even turning the steering wheel.

Excellent. I am getting the GEM replaced by a dealer next week. Putting in a used one. Amazing that I found a dealer in our area who will do the used part thing. 20 miles away but well worth it. I am hoping the replacement brings relief from the auto starting that it is doing.
