Rattling in Rear

I have a rattling banging noise coming from passenger rear when going over bumps and can't figure where it's coming from. I have new shocks and trailing arms, I crawled underneath and didn't see anything loose. I checked the exhaust and it looks like everything is clear and also checked the spare tire which is tight and doesn't move.I also removed spare and drove around and it still made the noise.

It almost seems the noise is coming from the wheel area, it's driving me nuts. I jumped on rear bumper a few dozen times to replicate noise but Didn't hear anything.

Appreciate any comment or ideas. 2002 XLT

Just a suggestion Check your lug nuts especially if you had removed the tire to do any work on shocks and trailing arms Also make sure everything is secure and tight is the Jack storage compartment

I checked lug nuts and they r fine. It's pretty loud like the whole back is loose or something but only on passenger rear. I checked again and still stumped, everything seems tight. Checked jack n it's tight...not sure what is going on

Rubber mallet, just don't hit the sheet metal. When you hit the loose part you will be able to tell from the difference in sound.

It sounds like metal on metal noise. Im guessing but my tail pipe is close to the bars that go vertical up from the sway bar( not sure what they are called).maybe that piece is hitting the tailpipe n making noise??. The noise only seems to be coming from the side where the tailpipe exits.

Swaybar links. Try securing the tailpipe better to see if that has an effect on the noise.

Stamp, are you saying it's the sway bar links making the noise? . I secured the tail pipe and it's outta the way now

I don't believe that stamp was saying the links are what is causing the noise You made a comment that you didn't know (not sure what they are called) and that is what they are called. Stabilizer Bar Links

Since you have secured the tail pipe are you still experiencing the noise.

Still getting the noise with tail pipe secured, still stumped, I grabbed everything on rear suspension and all seems tight from underneath but I guess because it's under load. The best bet would be to ******** the ground, correct?

I would think so Stamp normally is working during the day but he does jump on from time to time

Was it making any noise before you replaced shocks and trailing arms

Also maybe you want to pull the rear wheel and check to see if anything came loose on the Emergency brakes

I just bought it a week ago, the prior owner changed the shocks a few months ago so not sure, but he did say he replaced the brakes also, i will check the emergency brakes

On the rear brakes you just need to remove the pad assembly (2 Bolts 10mm I believe) and move it out of the way The disc should then be easy to remove

When you re-install the bolts toque the to 20 ft/lbs

While you are checking the brakes and have the rear jacked up check the shocks to see if they are loose if the upper bolts wasn't installed correctly it could be the cause of the noise

I went under the truck again n grabbed the sway bar and noticed some play where the bushings are located. I was able to move it with one hand pulling back and forth n noticed a clicking sound...do you think that is my problem?

I think I found it...it was the parking brakes. I applied the parking brakes a few times and released it and for two days no more rattle. I did notice while under the truck the parking brake cable had slack, maybe it was getting caught up on something....weird but no more rattle.

Think I have the same type of issue on my 2006 after inspection I was told my ebrake needed to be tightened as it won't hold the truck after 1200rpm so I'll try to tighten mine up as well and see if that'll permanently fix my rattling too... Thanks guys
