Hi, I need some help, have an 04 exp, the rear air was repaired and serviced several months ago. 2 days ago, we noticed a green liqud, similar to radiator fluid leak under the truck just above the right rear exhaust pipe Looking further, noticed the green liquid staining the exhaust pipe, and just above that, a hole in the body where it looks like and overflow drain hose outlet. The rear a/c is not blowing hot air, and the front a/c is still working but warmer then usual. I checked the radiator overflow In the front and it was adequately filled. Where should I check next? Or should I start taking the rear a/c apart? Is there a second radiator?
Thanks

sounds like the rear evaporator core is leaking. the coolant in your truck should be yellow. the core may be clogged causing the leak under pressure

KWT2000 nailed it. I took it apart, found the problem which was pooling in the rear air conditioner reservoir, as described, was the evaporator core. I picked up a used one at a salvage yard, so far so good.

Good call,

Thanks for the help.

One (Many) More Questions...

I ran the Exp for a while today with the back quarter panel off, just to monitor leaks, cooling, etc. The AC appears to be cooling fine. My question is, the evaporator lines are cold, not frozen, but cold to touch. The lines below it (high pressure hoses going to the radiator just in front of the evaporator) appears to be HOT, I can put my hand on it, but it is certainly HOT, My rough guess, maybe around 140 or 150, but my hand is not calibrated. I can keep my hand on the rubber hose covering the pipes, so it is not painfully hot, but definitely hotter then ambient. Is this normal?

BTW, this smaller radiator just in front of the evaporator, is that the unit that required the coolant oil??? Well, because that is what I put in there... It only took a couple of ounces from what was lost during the removal, but replaced it with PAG, to ford specs. Also, is there a separate fill port for that unit? Or does it just get filled with where you can fit the fluid?

Thanks

I use green coolant in my 97 expy, the yellow stuff can mix with green with no problems so its universal.

Any tips on getting access to the rear core? Mine is apparently leaking and needs replacement. Removing the access only shows me where it is ... not how to get at it.
thanks,
david
