Rear Caliper issue?

Had the service manager tell me the rear brake calipers tend to stick and often have to be replaced. I should have pads done at a dealer in case the caliper sticks(warranty)... Curious how full of it he is? Is this a known issue?

This is the first I've heard of it and I researched the 3rd gens pretty heavily before buying one. I saw a number of reports regarding warped rotors, but nothing about stuck calipers. I wouldn't pay dealer prices if it were me. Keep receipts/records for any brake work and if something goes awry with the calipers, you have proof that you kept up with maintenance.

my truck is an 04...never had this prob...he's full of it...very very very UNCOMMON

I will never take my vehicles to the dealer for anything unless it is a dealer only provided service/warranty. But even then they will give the runaround in order to not spend their $. The service techs I have nothing against. It is the service writers, who are basically service salesmen, that I dislike. On multiple occasions we have had service salesmen try to push unnecessary parts and repairs on our '07 EL. I have saved thousands by saying no and have had no issues with any of the parts they wanted to replace etc. Our expy came with free dealer oil changes for the life of the vehicle, and I don't even do that anymore after they lost our wheel lock... twice.

Yea had it in for a warranty window fix and he laid that line on me. I couldn't find anything on it either. Just trying to gauge how serious to take him in the future.

I have an 08 expy. Since I bought the truck 30k miles ago, I have had what I thought was a warped rotor. While replacing the lateral links yesterday, I decided to lube the brakes. There were no clips for the pads to ride the caliper. Therefore, the pads were rusted to the caliper bracket. These things barely moved when I stepped on the brakes, now I understood the peddle drop. Anyhow, the book says to "grease the pad" were it slides on the caliper bracket. How stupid to not just use a ******** clip. anyways, The pad was plenty thick, because it wasnt moving. so it never was caught in safety inspections. Pull them off and check it out. doubt you need a new caliper, as the guide pin design is top notch.
