I have seen a number of aftermarket steps that go in the receiver. Some claim to offer protection from rear and collision to the bumper so I have several questions.
Do they really offer any protection to the rear bumper?
Wouldn’t a collision at a certain speed end up damaging the receiver and frame?
At a high enough speed would the step worsen the safety protection built in to the bumper and crumple zone, or whatever they call it nowadays?
