Rear trailing arms after lifting 1st gen

A couple of questions after lifting a 1st gen 6in or more.

Did you have to get longer trailing arms ? If so were they available after market or did you have to have them fabricated?

How did you correct you drive line angle?

I am doing this on a 2wd XLT but any suggestions are appreciated.

Fortunately, those rear trailing arms are a very basic design. Anyone with basic welding skills can easily fab up a set with some DOM tubing and some Energy Suspension leaf spring bushings.

If you are going over 6" on the suspension lift, you may need to have the driveshaft modified / replaced. It just depends on how much you have to move the axle back to center it in the wheel well.

You may also have to build a longer panhard bar to keep the axle centered from side to side. But again, it's a simple piece to make.

Thanks Tony. They looked pretty simple in design and figured I would fab them up either way. I was just curious if there was like a standard size for that much lift .

If your stock ones are in good shape.. I'd be interested in the used ones after you remove them. I have a dime sized hole in one of mine.

If money is tight and you don't want to go with the PMT's, I would talk to a fab shop and have them make you a set out of tube steel. Paint them and call it good. Probably cost 50 bucks including materials, and will be a much less rust prone design than the originals. The opening in the middle of them lets the salt wreak havoc...
