What I found weird was that the dealership that I have mine serviced and a dealership that I've never taken it to, both texted me within one day of each other about the update and wanting to send a mobile tech out to complete the update. I thought it was a scam initially when the dealership I've never taken it to texted me first. But then when the dealership that I have it serviced at reached out, I realized it was legit.

I dropped off my 2020 Expedition for the recall and fibbed a little saying I had "clunky shifts" occasionally so they did a deep dive into the shift points, drove around while hooked up to a laptop, etc.
There was enough issues found that they are recommending a transmission rebuild at 112,000 miles. CDF clutch sleeve failure. Thank goodness I bought the extended warranty!

I'm curious though if a lot of these transmissions started to have an increased failure rate after overheating due to the faulty thermostat issue. I know mine got really hot towing an Airstream home from the eclipse a year ago.

I have a 2018 expedition-155k miles..dealer I used once called me to schedule next day apt in my driveway..must be a dealer race to fix them..maybe the CEO is concerned because they said it will take 45min to 1 hour in driveway or drop off half day at dealership..easy choice. First time I’ve been impressed by any dealership

yeah, i wondered if it was a scam, as it came as a txt message from a number I didn't recognize, so I called the dealer's front desk, asked for service and ended up talking to Ursula, who had sent the text. legit.

one dealership that reached out said they could send a tech over to do it in my driveway, however my rear wiper motor was dead and taillight has constant condensation so I dropped it off to get those warranty’d and do the recall.
FYI: Warranty does not cover condensation. Only if the tail light is dead or malfunctioning.
-Now for the recall.
I went to flash my ECU again (returned to stock before dropping off at dealership) with my 5star tuning tunes, but now my SCT BDX says “unsupported vehicle”. Hopefully SCT can figure out the new updated parameters.
-one thing I noticed is the Park to Reverse clunk in the morning is gone.
-shifts are smoother.
-update eliminated the ability to dim your NAV display. Can now only choose Day/Night or auto. Cannot use your dash display dimmer to dim it.
Other then that I haven’t noticed anything different.

@mightyexpy : There are some conditions of moisture within an exterior lamp housing which are warrantable, per the descriptions and photographic examples contained in the below-attached General Service Bulletin (GSB) 24-7068, which might support additional conversation with your dealer...

Good luck!

You gotta change dealers. There are bunch of them there.

Same for my late 19. Just got it Monday.
Only this one says OBD monitoring system for the catalytic converter may not be operating correctly. Nothing to do with transmission.

However a neighbor just told me his 5.3 2016 Yukon with 120,000 which had goofy shifting from the start wouldn’t move recently. No joke CA lemon lawed it. Now wondering if I could do the same for the typical Ford issue with the CDF drum given my dealer keeps brushing me off when I tell them it drops outa gear occasionally.

Having been through the thermostat issue I would agree that many of the transmission issues are likely in some part related to running hot for a long period of time.

I called my dealer today and they said they updated the firmware when they also updated the emissions firmware yesterday.

question is, WHICH firmware did they update? I count 45 'smart' modules reporting on ODB in my Limited Stealth. updating all of them would take many hours.

They didn't update any actual full version of firmware. Since there were 2 bulletins, they individually updated the PCM modules for transmission and catalytic converter.
With that said, I notice a difference in the way the tranny shifts and how it holds gears a little longer. This could be due to all the learning info being wiped out. As far as the catalytic converter is concerned, now we won't get the infamous failure code that means the converter is bad.

The recall was a SOFTWARE update to the Powertrain Control Module. There is a distinct difference between SW and FW. FW is logic that controls specific operations of chips. SW controls the function of the module and is flashed to the SOC. Anyway.. This update was OBD calibration for P0430 DTC. Prior to the update the possibility existed that a false positive could be triggered. This corrected that (possibly by changing the upper limits). There was no change to transmission strategy or anything else.

Saw Ford document, this software update is to prevent a false error code indicating low functioning catalytic converter. Local Ford dealer just came to home with mobile service to update PCM software.
Now a wonder if the $ $1500 I paid to replace my bank 1 catalytic converter about 2 years ago (at 88k miles) was really needed.
@3rd Expyowner123, did you have any luck getting Ford to reimburse any of the cost of your cat failure from 2 years ago? Our 2018 had a cat going out last year at 81,999 miles. At the time, Ford denied our request to have it covered since we were under 2k miles over the 80,000 warranty. With the recall, I'm wondering if it is worth submitting for reimbursement now. We still haven't had the current recal "fixed". We had a full transmission failure & replacement in Nov 2022 and have continued to have lots of transmission issues even after the replacement including valve body replacement on the updated trans. We've been begging/pushing for CDF replacement with the updated design but every time we take it in, they say they can't duplicate the issues while the trans tech tests it.

I have the same issue with my dealer. They tell me if it's not displaying the codes, there's nothing they can do about it. I still have over 10,000 miles left before my powertrain warranty expires. I just keep bringing it in.
