This is super frustrating. They put out a recall notice warning people explicitly to “immediately park” the vehicle.

Does that mean that we should even be driving it? It sure doesn’t read that way.

Warning people of fires and and injury, and then a month later there still is no update for almost 40,000 vehicles? This is very worrisome. Is my family even safe? What’s up with no new information? My wife drives this vehicle daily with my kids in it! WTF is going on, Ford?

From the recall notice:

Remedy
YOU SHOULD PARK YOUR VEHICLE OUTSIDE AWAY FROM STRUCTURES AND OTHER PROPERTY IMMEDIATELY. FORD MOTOR COMPANYS INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING AT THIS TIME. WE WILL CONTACT YOU WHEN FURTHER INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE.

Ford has really shat the bed on this one. It is unbelievable that a month has passed and there is no update as to what the cause of the fires is. I find it had to believe that they don't know. My bet is that the fix is very costly and Ford is doing a risk/cost analysis to determine their next steps. Meanwhile 40K of their customers are getting screwed.

Looks like they updated the underhood fire recall information this afternoon.

Remedy
OWNERS OF VEHICLES FROM THE EXPANDED POPULATION PRODUCED FROM JULY 27, 2020 NOVEMBER 2020 AND MAY 1, 2021-AUGUST 2021 WILL BE NOTIFIED BY MAIL AND INSTRUCTED TO PARK THEIR VEHICLE OUTSIDE AND AWAY FROM STRUCTURES AND OTHER VEHICLES DUE TO THE RISK OF UNATTENDED FIRE. FORD DEVELOPED TWO DIFFERENT REPAIR PROCEDURES FOR THESE VEHICLES, WHICH DEPENDS ON WHETHER THE VEHICLE HAS A STANDARD DUTY RADIATOR FAN MOTOR 700W OR A HEAVY DUTY RADIATOR FAN MOTOR 800W. OWNERS OF ALL VEHICLES PRODUCED FROM JULY 27, 2020 AUGUST 31, 2021 WITH STANDARD DUTY RADIATOR FAN MOTORS 700W WILL BE NOTIFIED ONCE REMEDY PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE, WHICH IS EXPECTED BY SEPTEMBER, 2022. THE REMEDY FOR THESE VEHICLES WILL INCLUDE A BATTERY JUNCTION BOX BJB INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT IF NECESSARY, THE REMOVAL OF A GROUND WIRE, AND THE INSTALLATION OF AN AUXILIARY ELECTRICAL BOX WITH A WIRE JUMPER INSTALLED. FORD PROVIDED THE GENERAL REIMBURSEMENT PLAN FOR THE COST OF REMEDIES PAID FOR BY VEHICLE OWNERS PRIOR TO NOTIFICATION OF A SAFETY RECALL IN MAY 2021. THE ENDING DATE FOR REIMBURSEMENT ELIGIBILITY IS ESTIMATED TO BE AUGUST 5, 2022 FOR THE EXPANDED POPULATION VEHICLES.

So, according to that what the hell do they do if you have heavy duty?

LOL!! Right. That notice is very poorly written.

I'm sure non HD tow means 700w fan and HD tow means 800w fan. So what's the fix for the 800w fan?

I was hoping you all could translate for me. Ha

I’m struggling to understand the new dates. Mine rolled off the line 12/9/20. That was included in the old notices, but seems like it’s not included in this one…lawyers.

Yes, what does this mean. Looks like an intern wrote this and it wasn't proofread.

"OWNERS OF VEHICLES FROM THE EXPANDED POPULATION PRODUCED FROM JULY 27, 2020 NOVEMBER 2020 AND MAY 1, 2021-AUGUST 2021"

Are they now saying that impacted vehicles were built from 7-27-20 to 11-xx-20. And 5-1-21 to 8-xx-21.

This release has made this issue even more confusing. Way to go Ford!!

I have a bad habit of reading "legalese" in the most favorable light for my situation. I'm hoping what this nonsense means is that my vehicle is not included because it is not in the "expanded population" (but was in the original recall population).

Trying to figure out what radiator mine actually has. Does anyone know where to look to figure that out? Mine is a 2021 XLT with Equipment Group 202A and HD Trailer Tow Package.

Here are some details. It's the battery junction box that is causing the fires. And I wouldn't pay much attention to those dates. If the recall shows up in your Ford Pass app or when you type in your VIN on the Ford or NHTSA website, your vehicle is impacted.

They updated the verbiage on the remedy again.

Here's what it shows now:
YOU SHOULD PARK YOUR VEHICLE OUTSIDE AWAY FROM STRUCTURES AND OTHER PROPERTY UNTIL THIS REPAIR HAS BEEN COMPLETED. FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS AUTHORIZED YOUR DEALER TO INSPECT THE BATTERY JUNCTION BOX BJB AND REPLACE THE BJB IF THERE IS EXISTING DAMAGE, AND REMOVE A GROUND WIRE FREE OF CHARGE PARTS AND LABOR.

I called my local dealer to schedule a recall inspection. They scheduled me for October 12...yikes.

My dealer called me and I've got an appt this Tuesday
haha I bought used (with an open recall because I was desperate). I don't think the Honda dealer cares anymore.

My concern is that they're going to look at the BJB and see that it isn't currently melting and then we'll have to wait until September or October to get a new part if they're going to actually replace them before they show signs of melting. Then, finally, we'll be able to put our $60-90k vehicles in the garage.

That may be the case. I will ask the service manager at my dealer when I bring it in on Tuesday. I did look at my BJB. I took the cover off and looked at the ground wires going to it. It looked fine.

Any update on your recall appointment?

Yes, I posted in the other thread. Took it to my dealer today and they did the recall fix. Remember this is for HD cooling fans only (which mine has). It took them almost 2 hours but it was the first one they did. The service manager was with the tech most of the time and said it wasn't a bad job.

Anyone have an update on the wiper blade recall? 22S26/22V250. On my Ford Pass app it still says this:

FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS WORKING CLOSELY WITH ITS SUPPLIERS TO PRODUCE PARTS FOR THIS REPAIR. WHEN PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE, FORD MOTOR COMPANY WILL NOTIFY YOU VIA MAIL TO SCHEDULE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR DEALER FOR REPAIRS TO BE COMPLETED FREE OF CHARGE PARTS AND LABOR. PARTS ARE ANTICIPATED TO BE AVAILABLE IN SMALL QUANTITIES 4 QUARTER 2022.

Wow.

My 2015 Expedition has been under a Ford safety recall since August 26, 2022 - for the potential for the front HVAC blower motor to catch fire while the vehicle is in operation.

Initially, Ford said the parts would be available in the first quarter of 2023. Now, the parts availability has been extended by Ford until June 2023.

IF the parts become available (which I doubt) by June 2023, that would be a 10+ months wait for a safety recall part.

Ford is doing a miserable job on quality and also on repairing known safety defects.

Is that wiper blades, or wiper arms? Why wouldn't you just buy new blades if there is an issue? Am I missing something?
