Pretty new here, just got a 2001 XLT, 5.4, with 130,000 miles. The first, and probably cheapest mod I want to make is exhaust. It just had a new cat. converter last month when it was smogged, so Id like to get a new Cat back, like a Flowmaster, 1 in, 2 out. Dont want it loud, but throaty and deep, (I know, that sounds terrible) but I want it to be heard, but not from far away, if that makes sense? Also finances are a factor. Dont want to spend a ton, but also dont want to buy a cheap muffler and 8 ft of flex pipe at Napa! Thanks for any input!

flowmaster 40 series. but if your gonna do it do it right, single in dual outlet defeats the purpose of a dual exhaust it dosent help power or mileage . true duals make more hp and better mileage and sound alot better. i paid 550 installed for my setup with tips.

im not 100% sure but i could of swore someone on this forum said that long tubes for an f150 will not fit the expedition with out alot of cutting and repositioning of the tubes. I forgot who said it but I think someone will chime in. unless the guys over at F150 forum just dont want us to have long tubes lol

yeah a lot of discussions on long tube headers but those would fit without a lot of work or find a shop to make you a custom set

im gonna keep saying it. no need for kits. find a muffler you like. everyone has their own tastes. some like flow master, some like magna flow, some like spintech, and so on. so find one you like. then after you have to decide what you want. true dual, si/do, di/so. si/si. single in single out is popular for a quick set up. its also good if you dont have the money for the extra tube and 2nd muffler. then you can always buy a 2nd muffler and a shop do a true dual. also dont for get the x-pipe to equal out the flow.

Thanks for all the responses! Here is what I have come up with. I have 2 muffler shops in town. One offered the Flowmaster, 2, 2" pipes out, with 2 3" resonated tips for $325 installed. The other, offered basically the same for the same price, but also had a cheaper, yet similar to the Flowmaster, (built the same, just an knock off), same way, 2" out, 2 3" tips, for 4195. He has this cheaper muffler on his 68' Camaro 327, and sounds great, (though he has headers, dual the whole way, and a crossover pipe. It just dont have the pingy "echo": the flowy has. Not sure, I'll keep thinking and looking. thanks for all the help guys!

search youtube for exhaust sounds. f150s and expeditions will sound the same. so start there. see what muffler they have and use it. my buddy has a little tiny flowmaster 10 series. thing is tiny. sounds great too. hardly any drown in cab and it ends right at the back of the cab.
