I have a 2017 Expy with 22inch rims (285/45r22), which are not conducive to airing down to drive on the beach in the OBX. I just picked up a set of raptor rims (2012/13 style) and I am thinking about getting some 285/70R17 rubber for them. I have stock suspension and I wasn't planning on lifting, I just wanted to be able to air down for beach driving without popping a bead.

According to the tire size calculator I'd be 1.9% larger -- anyone running these on a stock 3rd gen? Any issues? I saw a couple posts with 2nd gen expys running them fine.

Also, anyone who drives there expy on the beach a bunch, any tire recommendations? I want something that will do well in sand when I air down, but also be good for the 8 hour drive down to the outer banks from Pennsylvania.

Bone stock 2017 hits the OBX 4x4 every year. Never had a problem. Just air down to ~15psi. If all you're doing is cruising you'll be fine, on either the hard pack or the soft sand.

I found that when forced to roll through the moguls on a busy day, driving faster, not slower, improves the ride considerably.
