My wife and i just bought a 2010 limited. It has a ford gen2 remote start that I'm guessing was an after thought and installed by the dealer. It's a separate key fob with one button. I found a quick guide of sorts in the glove box, and followed the starting procedure. The horn chips once, it runs it's self check or whatever, but Instead of starting, the panic alarm goes off. You have to hit unlock on the other key fob to get it to stop. Any ideas what might be causing this? I thought maybe the bypass module, but I held one of the keys up to the ignition switch and it did the same thing. I have no idea if that's even a valid way to check that function. I've never dealt with this type of thing. Any advice/help/guidance will be greatly appreciated

I pressed lock twice then hit the remote start. I believe this it what you have to do in the newer systems but I have no idea. Is that what your sequence is?

My sequence (with all the buttons on the key) is Lock-Start-Start. Manual says they have to be within 3 seconds of each other. Exterior lights flash and the truck starts. The parking lights come on. Can unlock and open the doors during the run time. But can't open windows.

Not sure the range the remote works. I swear my wife's Subaru will do this as long as the car is in the same ZIPcode.

Having a black truck in Virginia I find remote start nice in the summer if a bit decadent.

When you press the remote start button, does the vehicle horn honk ever?

If there is a problem, a series of honks will be heard to indicate what the issue is. For example, if the tach monitor connection failed, the horn will honk 4 times. Or, if it thinks there is a key in the ignition, it'll honk 5 times.

I'm just confirming what you interpret as the alarm isn't these queues. It'll be short horn blasts, like when you press Lock 2X quickly, not longer, continual blasts of the horn like when you hit the panic button.

When I push and hold the button on the one button remote. The horn chirps one time as if I pressed lock twice on the regular key fob. You can them hear things turning on like ac, radio, fuel pump or something, like it's getting ready to crank up. But right when you think it's going to crank, the panic alarm goes off. Not the 1-6 chirps meaning different things. Full blown, somebody is trying to steal me, panic alarm. And it will only go off by pressing unlock. I've tried this with the doors unlocked, with a key held up against the ignition switch, with the doors open, with the windows down, but it's always the same result.

Got it. You'll want to find the module, probably in the front passenger lower kick panel. Could also be on the drivers side above the pedals, below the steering column. Google image search the module to see what it looks like it but you probably already know.

It will have a few connectors. The one of interest is a two wire harness, black & red. It ultimately goes to the steering column. At the far end there is a ring that goes around the ignition cylinder. You will have to pull off the steering column cover and likely lower drivers side knee panel to access. This ring is sticky taped or glued on. If its come loose, or its connection at the module wiggled off, then I am 99% sure that this is where your problem is. If its gone bad, its relatively inexpensive to replace.

Here is what you are looking for, or extremely similar. If the ring is found to be attached where its suppose to be, and the other end is plugged in snug at the module, use the part number on the small in-line box to confirm its the correct one before replacing.

This was my original though too after some initial research. I'll take everything apart when I have some time and check it out. I'll update my findings

Thanks

Haven't taken anything apart yet, but did check for loose connections. Everything seems to be good.

I also tried a different sequence. Instead of lock, I hit unlock on the key fob, then the start button on the remote start fob. Chirp once, doors lock, stuff starts happening like normal, the one chirp. No panic alarm, just one chirp. I have explorations for 2-6 chirps, but not one. Ideas?

I've tried that. It won't even recognize that I'm trying to remote start when doing it that way. I assume that the newer factory installed system is very different from the dealer installed one that mine has. Think I'll change the batteries in the fobs and see if that does anything
