On my old nissan titan I got longtubes and used spark plug spacing extensions to pull the o2 sensors further out causing no lean code. Can we do something like this on these 5.4 tritons? I supposedly have leaking exhaust manifolds so figured maybe good to try to remove the possibly clogging cats.

Replaced the fuel pump and coils and all kinds of other stuff so when it was running super rich I'm wondering if it partly clogged the cats helping the manifold gaskets to start blowing...

Your putting a band aid when you know you need stitches. Running rich is # 1 culprit of plugging up those danged cats. It's relatively cheap to have them checked, you might have only damaged a few, not all 4. Fix it right the first time, if you have another vehicle to drive, you might have to park it, till funds are available. You wouldn't be the first to do so. Let us know how it turns out.

They used to sell MIL(malfunction indicator light) eliminators. on EBAY and or other sites($25-$40). They plug in with a short wire, between rear O2 sensor and harness. They trick the computer with correct voltage. Mustang guys use them all the time and they work. They are for "off road" use only and are technically illegal. They are used for high performance exhaust systems or cat below threshold PO420), not plugged cats. State vehicle inspectors visually inspect, for cats. If you pull up with a unusually loud Expy, chances are you will get busted.

It has been done in the past

But you know it's not smog legal.

I'm on an active volcanic island, we have vog not smog. Volcanic smoke daily from the constant lava smoldering...

I'm not in comy cali lol

We have no emmisions here and I plant trees daily for the sake of the planet, as a hobby, karma wise I'll be fine. I start some from seeds, some I make cuttings and root others air layering. I teach my kids to plant too as my parents and grandparents before them. I can say my 6 and 8yr old daughters probably planted more trees than most city folks do collectively in their lifetime.... I also clean the ocean of trash as well as the land regularly. Generally speaking, I think plants are more important than humans and I like them more than some people. I also am an electrician and installed photovoltaic on quite a few homes as well as worked at the puna geothermal pgv power plant and the pepeekeo windmill plant *green energy power plants here locally on the big island of hawaii* Pretty sure I did more than my part and I'm not dead. I do love diesel trucks, excessive car stereos and other wasteful things as well, so I'm not a 100% green person. But all the off grid people I know personally don't contribute what I have either. They're more minimalist lifestyle. Oh, I also like to kill crown of thorns while diving, an invasive reef killing urchin that harms and eventually kills coral reefs here.

Far as the original quest, I may just get longtubes, anybody with positive input on not throwing a cel ir recommendations on budget longtube headers to look at? Seems pace setter does some shorties but I want long if I'm getting headers...

A spark plug non-fowler should work fine if there is room. I don't think there are any longtubes for the expedition, and I remember reading that F150 LT will not work due to some differences.

Edit: I guess I'm reviving really old threads. . . . Didn't realize these are all from 2017. . .
