Replace towing hitch... with what?

Due swedish regulations im only allowed to pull 1653,467 pounds (!)... some stupidity because of the Expeditions total weight.

I will only use the hitch when im moving garbage to the waste separation facility.
So... im thinking of making it detachable and put something more fun in place instead.
So, give me suggestions!
- A skeleton skull with breaking lights
- A "step up"with similar lights
- ?

Hehe... i just pasted the numbers from the Mac dash board converter and got the (.) and (,) wrong... obviously ;_)

But the toilet... i could have killed for that when i got stuck in rush hour yesterday...

Hey Anders, even if you don't tow anything I still recommend keeping a large hitch ball installed. I don't know how drivers are in your town, but here in Montreal it's full of idiots and the risk of getting rear-ended at low speed in traffic jams is pretty high. That's why I always have my hitch ball on, even though I never tow anything.

I got rear ended by a Nissan Pathfinder last year. My truck didn't have a single scratch on it. His pathfinder's bumper cover had a hole the size of my fist. Looked like someone shot a 12-gauge at it. Needless to say the dude was not happy, but it was all his fault.

Anyway, if you wanna get creative, here's my suggestion

find a local metal fabricator and have anything you want made. I remember a few years ago some one at the local swap meet/ flea market was selling custom powder coated covers. he said he had a cnc machine and could make anything you wanted.

My vote's on the hitch sh*tter for sure...

On a serious note, I would agree with Bertro that hitches provide a nice protection for being rear ended. Mine has saved my rear bumper twice in the winter. Otherwise a Ford emblem always looks good there. I have one but never put it in.

Ok, a flimsy step thing wouldn't do. But a more robust construction ala Static54:s example would do the job AND protect the rear.

Called it the Honda killer. It doubles as a step. I welded a plate / gusset that makes the top a step. It's not indestructible but it would definitely give the upper hand. I was bored and made it at work pretty simple but something along those lines.
