I'm new to the forum so thanks for having me! We just purchased a 2011 Limited 4x4 and got very lucky in that it only has 17500 miles. It has the factory tires which are 275-55-20. They're Pirelli and more of a highway tire. I'd like to go with an all terrain tires (little more aggressive looking) and possibly a little larger. Does anyone have any experience with go with a bit larger tire size with factory suspension? I was considering a 275-60-20 and have been looking at the Goodyear Wrangler AT Adventure. Thoughts on a good choice for tires? Goodyear is enticing because they currently have a $160 rebate on these tires. Below is a pic of what it looks like today. BTW it also has the air suspension. Not sure if that matters or makes any difference. I assume you cant manually adjust the ride height if I were to run a larger tire.

I have a '12 LTD and put Michelin LTX II tires on it about 15 months ago. I drive in the snow to ski and pull a 3000# fishing boat. I've done a lot of back road, off road, mud, slime gravel driving. I'm really happy with my Michelins. Surprisingly, the best price I found after taxes, mounting, disposal fees etc was at Sears! Even better than Tire Rack.

I went with original size because I also have the load leveling suspension. I didn't want to change any of the geometry or load rates.

PS, pretty ride! Do you like your "wine bottle" wheels?

I have the Nitto NT421Q on the wife's Exploder and am very pleased with them. Good all around performance, more aggressive than pictures portray, good wet traction and a 117 load rating in 275 55 20. Albeit the side wall is rather generic and plain.

My other recomendation is the Hankook DynaPro ATM. Had them on the same Exploder prior to the Nittos. Had phenomenal results with them! Aggressive tread, good siping, good wet traction, good off road, pretty quiet for the aggressive tread on road, nice side wall design and structure for decent handling, heavy sidewall protection and a solid rim guard. I got 44k out of them with no issues. Would happily purchase again.

Thanks for the info guys! I actually joined several years ago when I had a 02' Expedition. I don't mind the wine bottle wheels but I'm on the lookout for some F-150 6 spoke wheels that are on the sport package pickups. See pic below. I think they'd look pretty slick on a gray expedition. Do you guys know if there's much interest in 20" "wine bottle" wheels? It may also be challenging to find the 6 spoke wheels for a decent price.

I'm going to look into the price of the Michelin LTX and it'll more than likely stick with stock size to prevent any issues.

Nice looking ride FisherPete - they're twins! I see the snow in the background. Are you in the snow much? We just moved from Oklahoma to NE Ohio and I'm trying to figure out how to protect our vehicles from rust. The Expy I just got sat in the garage during the winter months in Ohio so I'd like to keep it as rust free as possible plus I have a Dodge Ram that relocated with us from OK that I'd like to keep as rust free as possible. Seems like there's quite a few products out there - I'm open to suggestions if anyone has any experience. I may just make frequent trips to the car wash over the winter months.

I should better specify my tires as they have a variety of LTX things now. Mine are the LTX M/S2 All Seasons.

Yes, I'm in the snow every chance I get - great skiing just an hour from home! Here in Oregon, they use no salt as that would damage salmon streams. I haven't had any issues with rust or corrosion. I do, however, do a drive through car was at least once a week which includes an underbody spray. I really think it depends on what your road maintenance folks put on the road, since the Expy has some pretty decent rust-proofing built in to system.

My last rig was a '99 Expy. It also had no rust. Before that was the '94 Explorer. The ex-wife still drives that. It only has rust where she failed to repair accident damage.

I like the Cooper AC3. Absolutely love them. Ride great and have an aggressive tread pattern which is great for snow. They look awesome on my 2011 XLT
