The center nut is supposed to be torqued to 175 ft-lbs. Then you should stake it too like the factory did.

Big difference on procedure.

2wd.. I preload it while spinning the rotor to 300 inch pounds and then loosened it a quarter turn and turn it back finger tight I hope that works

Since you mentioned bearing pre-load I will assume it may be 2wd.

I attached PDF files from the shop manual (installation only - 2wd) which was a pita because of the size limit for attachments.

I was going to offer to email you the complete pdf file but it appeared you got off line so I broke it up into 3rd's so I could attach to the post.

175 lb/ft would have trashed your bearings if not broken something, lucky your instinct told you otherwise. 300 inch pounds should be on the safe side but make sure you follow the correct procedure before you drive on it or you may damage the bearings prematurely.

4wd hubs are completely different set up. No bearing pre-load and power is applied through the hub so major difference in procedure and torque.

I tried to reply with the correct procedure for 2wd as soon as I saw the post but the size of the attachment complicated my reply and timing. I also knew I could not explain it nearly as well as the shop manual.
