I have seen on other forums about adding a resistor to the MAF/IAT sensor wires to improve mileage, has anyone done this? If so, which wires and what resistor do you use?

The point is to feed the pcm false readings telling the pcm that the intake air temperature is cooler than it really is. There are modifiers in the timing tables which decrease or add timing based on temperature of the IAT. Lower temps equal more timing.

This may work somewhat with the IAT sensor but it better be precisely chosen and implemented. It could add too much ignition advance creating detonation or set a cel because the reading is out of range. My guess is it also would alter the temp readings in a non-linear fashion. Tune would be much better approach.

Screwing with the mass air sensor will give incorrect load readings, thus fuel and timing would both be "tweaked". This would only work temporarily till the pcm compensates for the incorrect readings unless its too far out of range. Then you would get cel and poor running conditions as it would revert to a "failed mass air table" for load calculations.

Would highly recommend staying away from altering the mass air flow sensor in any way!! Also feel the IAT sensor mod is more trouble than its worth and could potentially create issues.

I was just curious thats all. I know that the fuel mileage we gets sucks, wish there was a way to get more than 14 or 15 MPG. I know, if I want better, sell it. But I LOVE my Expedition!

here is my .02... I have actually purchased, installed, and removed on of these "POS's". I am one of those guys who has to do it to understand it, no matter what people say... guess im hard headed. anyways... it worked great for about 2 months... then I was avging about 7 MPG.... highway. I was getting about 180 miles a tank. Pulled that thing out fast and then soon after my IACV started acting weird and jumping all over the place. It apparently screwed with my PCM and was sending erratic signals to it. Never been right since. taking it in next week. Don't do it.

Are you referring to the programmer or the resistors on the MAF and IAT...?

The resistor on the IAT sensor. It looks like it actually does something because it has a plastic box wrapped around it. good money in=good performance. I don't have a tuner as its a tad out of my price range right now.
