Retrofit Steering Wheel Controls XLT

I have a 2009 XLT without the steering wheel controls. Would it be easy to add them in, and if so does anyone have a DIY or a part number? There is a blank plastic plate where it is supposed to be.

putting them in the steering wheel is the easy part. the dash wiring is different and the radio is different.

Yes its possible!
I brought a steering wheel off of ebay for like 40 bucks I think and took the controls out of it and installed it in my wheel. Let me know if you need the wire colors. I think its only two wires that I to add to a plug in the steering column. Ran them to the radio plug and that was it.

Need the wire that runs from the switch down the steering column to the canbus or radio

So I posted some pics of my steering wheel. When I added my controls my steering wheel had no wires in it. When I went to purchase the controls they didn't come with the wire that plugs in behind the airbag. I just brought a used steering wheel from eBay with everything without the airbag for like $50 bucks. That was the first part. Once I plugged the control wires into my steering wheel I then realized I needed to remove steering column cover to get to the plug that comes from the steering wheel. It is only two wires for the steering wheel controls. I took some small speaker wire and ran it from there to the back of my radio and it has been working for the last 3 years without any issues.

There is no reason to actually remove the steering wheel correct?
Just un hook the battery, let system drain for 15 min. to de activate air bags.
Remove air bag, remove steering column cover.
Wire steering wheel control switch to clock spring.
Then There are more wires that are needed from Clock spring to radio harness?
I'm installing an aftermarket unit that supports the steering wheel controls so as long as the signal gets to the harness it should work.
Orrin, your switch has -Temp+ does that actually do anything since you don't have climate control? I guess it could be made to control the rear?
Last question for now, IF the steering wheel has to be removed... Do you really need to use a new bolt? The repair manual states, remove steering bolt and dispose of, use new bolt when re-assembling.

I am currently trying to do this. Would love some help. Purchased button set with phone symbol at bottom not temp settings. I have a 07 ext. Came with blank plate. No wiring behind. Havent pulled apart steering wheel altogether but I'm assuming the wiring behind is missing too. I see it has been done. Did you have to change the clockspring?
