Rumbling noise when accelerating from a stop

I have a 2006 EB Expedition 2 wheel drive. The rumbling noise only happens when I accelerate from a stop while turning. The noise seems to be coming from the engine compartment. The tires have been replaced and the problem continues. Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem on a previous vehicle and turned out to be the steering rack. Can you provide any other details? I would take a look under the hood and do a good visual as well as check fluid levels.

Rumbling

Accelerating form a stop and going straight, no problem. When turning from a stop, either right or left, it will rumble almost as soon as I accelerate. If I back off the accelerator it will stop or when I finally get the wheels straight it stops.

Only when accelerating from a stop. When I let off the gas it stops. If I am already cruising and make a turn it does not rumble.

Check the cv joints. Sometimes they only make a noise when upon acceleration while turning. Thats how I tested bad cv joints. From a stand still with the wheels cut to the right or left then accelerating stopping then accelerating again. Good luck!

Jack up the rear and spin the tires? Spin one side while leaving the other alone. That should simulate a "turn" condition, yes (since one side is spinning faster than the other)?

Also, I wonder if it would make the sound if you reverse from a standstill while turning?

Rumling/shuddering.

I found a suggestion on another BB. It said to add a friction modifier to my differential/spider gears??? I had my expedition in the shop for routine maintenance and the mechanic added the modifier to the differential. He told me it was due to the limited slip differential. It has been about 3 days now and the rumbling has been almost completely reduced. He said to give it a week for for the friction modified to work itself completely into the area. Total cost of the friction modifier, $10.00. What a fix if it works.
