Running Board lights

Has anyone put LEDs in place of their running board lights?

i dont have running board lights...but its a thought to add some LEDs to it...wire them to the courtesy lights so they come on at the same time...

i was thinking about that. the newly bed lined step looks really black. i like it. but then the lights kill it. and i have one out too. passenger front light. idk how to change them. i keep looking and cant find it. if you do ill follow.

Solisimo, can you post some pics of how you have the lights on your rack wired up. I want an idea on how to wire them.

Panda, I'll around and see what I can find. It seems like you could just pop them out with a knife or flat head

The lens seems like it would just pop out. I haven't tried to mess with it yet. Is the bulb setting in the lens or is it setting the running board housing?

from what it looks like the wires go into the housing. so i would think the back comes off some how. idk. i know people have step bars on the side. maybe THEY should help us out. cause they have to take the wires off some how.

There's a black cover underneith that is held on with a plastic rivet, pop that off and the bulb socket comes out with a quarter turn.

I changed mine with some cheap leds from advance auto parts. The sockets were kind of deteriorated on the contacts, and now after an Ohio winter they are goners.
Summit racing has new ones, gonna have to add that to the list.

Oh yea, go to the hardware store and pick up some of those black plastic push rivets, you're probably going to destroy them taking the cover off.

thanks for that. i think ill change mine to leds soon. when it comes to leds i have NO clue. i wish someone would be like. get these ones they work good and last a while too. but cant ever seem to get an answer to led questions i have.

just LED underbody...MAYBE...LEDs on the boards...i plan on adding another battery and upgrading the alt to a 200 amp...should be good with that setup...

or just add a second alt and a few deep cell batteries gotta make sure you have enough power to keep your xmas tree lit up

or both...i plan on redoing my system down the road...so i may upgrade with 2 high wattage amps...AND deep cell batts...

where are you thinking of puttin the second batt or are you just gonna replace then one you have with a deep cell

You could always get the dual battery tray from wrangler power products.
It's a tight fit, but everything clears.

i was thinking that, but i was also thinking about doing this. http://www.amazon.com/Taylor-Cable-48000-Battery-Relocator/dp/B000CQ24A6 something like that. move the battery to the rear, but use a box and do duals and put in under neath the rear some where and keep it out of harms way. that way if someone trys to steal my truck and goes to cut the battery cable for the alarm they cant find it. haha. i think its a good idea. and just run 0 gauge plugs to the front so i can jump it, and some plugs in the center console for easy access for powering switches and what not.
