Just bought an 04 Expedition 5.4 with 103,000 miles. It was a lease vehicle that had supposedly one owner, all maintenance was kept up since the lease holder was paying for it.
The transfer case takes forever to shift into 4L and out of 4L. Sometimes it says your in 4L, and you start to drive about 20 feet and realize its in 4H, then before you have a chance to stop it SLAMS into 4L.
I don't hear any abnormal noises, and the axles both lock normally. It seems like it has posi front and rear and is extremely hard to steer once in 4H or 4L. This all seems like a normal 4WD, except for the transfer case taking it's time to engage.
Is this common/normal for the expedition? This is the first 4WD I've owned with a "knob" that selects four wheel drive instead of a shifter.
