Mine is a 01 as well. 5.4 4x4. I average around 13 to 15 highway and around 11 city. Your mileage seems normal. Do u have any lights on or scanned the ecm? Does it seem like it's just down on power? Or is it hesitating are all. Trans feel normal? How many miles does it have? The catalytic converters for these trucks are pretty pricey. I'd do more investigating before throwing money at it.

Thank you for the reply's the mileage is over 200k, I have not checked the fuel pressure, also I have not checked the plugs. No codes using the od trick, I think it's down to plugs cops or cats. I really dont want to pull #1 plug I dont have the money now for the broken spark plug tool.($65 on ebay). I will check fuel pressure today I think it's to be 35psi. And than look at the cats.I may have to rat them out and use spark plug non foulers on the rear O2's. Thanks everybody for the help. I really do appreciate it.

Welp got it figured out. Lmao I am very low on transmission fluid. I check it when it's cold. Just checked it hot not touching the dip stick. Thank you all for your input and help. I cant believe I missed such a simple fix. No on to find the leak. I will start at transmission cooler and work my way back thanks guys for everything.

No problem. Sometimes the simplest fixes are the most overlooked. I know iv done it. Glad to hear u got it figured out. The 3 valve motors are the ones that break plugs. But if u do yoursbe sure to torque them to spec. They are known to vacate the head if not torqued. I know i did it on my f250.

If you don't find any visual fluid leaks and your truck is 4x4, it could be the seal between the trans and the transfer case. Pull the fill plug on the t-case and if more than a dribble comes out on level ground than that's where your fluid is going. Hope this helps.

Inspect your transmission lines. They are notorious for rot/leaks.

Hard to believe it was just sluggish up hill. I'd think it would of been slipping like crazy, if that low on fluid. Any how I'm glad you figured it out.
