Sounds like a loose fuel cap, which will throw that code. I just got my first Expedition, so I don't know of any other things to check for.

That or a bad hose. There is one large hose feeding the tank from the filler tube. There are also 3 smaller hoses running to the tank. Vent lines and ?? Then you have your feed and return line from the fuel pump.

If you remove your spare tire you can get up near the back of the tank and see most of the hoses and fuel lines. There is one near the front which you cannot see unless you drop the tank.

I just installed a new fuel pump a few weeks ago :) I can tell you my filler hose was in sad shape but not leaking (yet).

Old thread, but I ran into this as well. Our 2003 Exp with 148k still had the original spark plugs when we bought it a few months back. Something about pink dots on the oe plugs. Anyway, ran through a 3" puddle of water in Phoenix and it was enough to almost kill the truck after what was described. Truck was running extremely rough and smelled of fuel. Ended up replacing plugs and ignition coil and that resolved the issue.
