I am wondering if anyone with a 2006, with Automatic suspension has had to obtain an upper control arm. (gotta buy the upper arm to get the ball joint)

I am getting a slight knocking in my driver front end that I cant find and figured I would just do all the joints as it has 100k+. I hope as I tear it down I will find it, but also wanted to have the parts on hand to get it done.

According to all my sources, Rockauto, Advance, Autozone the proper part is based on Build date. The build date for my truck is 5/06. None of them carry the part based on this date. All there dates seem to be centered on either before 12/13/5 or after that time. However none show any after that are also for an automatic suspension. Rock even called Moog and Raybestos to ask if it would fit and both said no.

Can anyone here vouch for what item they might have had to use and where obtained?

Freeway,

thanks for the reply, and yes air suspension. Here was the problem. ANY parts supplier you went to showed control arms based on when the truck was built. for example my build date was 05/06. However, none of them showed any available parts for any ford truck built after 12/05 that also had AIR SUSPENSION. All basically said they could not help me.

I contacted Raybestos which in my book is a premier parts supplier and here is what I found out.

IF one had a Truck built anytime for the 2006 model year, and that truck had std suspension, then until 12/13/2005 you had one control arm, after that date you had a different control arm. (and yes this applied to both the driver and passenger sides.) HOWEVER, if you had a 2006 truck with AIR SUSPENSION, then your control arm was the same all year. With this info I was then able to find the part I needed and have it coming.

I order a lot from Rockauto due to their great prices. However where suspension parts are concerned I like to get lifetime warranties of which RA says you must deal with Manufacturer and not them. Advance Auto normally has direct exchange on anything warranty. With some Discounts avail at the moment, it was just as cheap to buy from Advance, and if in the future I have problems all I have to do is remove and swap out.

Talk with the dealership and get the part number...then search that p/n and u can go to tascaparts.com... they have great pricing...or just search for year group 03-06 because they will have the same suspension regardless of when made in year group

Thanks for the info and the new parts source I was unaware of. Got it saved for future reference. Though I didnt mention it I had gotten the number from my Ford dealer. They told me they could get it for $225. I told them if I could not find it, I'd get back to them. That was when I got with Raybestos.

Tasca shows the part for $125, I got it for $92 through Advance, and with a lifetime replacement warranty.

Yep, Advance Auto, online not a local store. Online has lots more stuff than the locals. But, if something isnt right you can take it to any store for full refund or replacment. That and all warrantied items are handled by the local stores. Item I got was MOOG, which to me, other than Raybestos is one of the best suspension companies there is where long life and quality is concerned. Online they had both free shipping and a 15% discount this month on any purchase over $50.

Personally I like to stay OEM if I can, but lets face it, Motorcraft didnt last but 100k, doesnt have grease fittings for proper pm, and the price on items like this are out the roof. Not to include warrantied only out the door.
