A couple of days ago my spare key and fob were stolen out of my fiance's open car, luckily the truck has not been in front of my house since it's getting some bodywork done this past week.
I'll be picking it up tomorrow and I'm really worried that these dirtbags will come back around.
I'm pretty handy, so I've considered changing the door lock cylinders, but then I'll have 2 keys.
I thought about changing all lock cylinders including the ignition, but I haven't been able to find a set with new keys included.
found separate keys and fobs for sale but they have to be cut.
If I go to the dealership God knows how much they'll charge me, please someone help!

yes the dealership will charge you a lot since you only have one key and chances are that you will not be able to get a locksmith to cut you a key either because of same reason.

Have to called the dealership to ask if the codes can be changed? Perhaps an aftermarket alarm system is in order though that wouldn't change your needing to deal with getting that expensive 2nd key done.

I have seriously got to get a 3rd key made for just such an occasion.

oh and switching out the door cylinders won't go you any good since they have the fob. Then it's just a screwdriver's turn to stolen ville.

My advice would be to call dealership, get the price on key and fob and then have an alarm system installed. And perhaps a few trained attack rattlesnakes on the floorboards.

Then again you could wait a few days to see if those keys that were "stolen" end up being found in you wife's other purse... no accusing, i'm speaking from experience. I found a hundred dollar bill in the inside pocket of a vest 10ish years after i just knew someone took it from my wallet. Pocket also had a brand new lighter and pack of smokes (Score!) haha.

Best of luck to you.

I'm pretty sure that if you program your existing and new keys and fobs, that the lost key and fob will no longer work. It won't keep them from using the key in the door to gain entry, but it won't start.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll call the dealership later to get an idea how much they're going to take me for.
An alarm is also a good idea.
I got the truck back from the body shop on Tuesday and I've just been pulling the ignition fuse at night. I also took anything of value out of it.
I'm waking up 2000 freaking times a night just to look outside!

Oh I just remembered a really cheap anti theft trick. If our rides have electric fuel pumps (they do right) you can rig up a hidden switch inline with it's power wire (if that's too high an amperage then just find fuel pump fuse and run switch off that)... no gas, no go.

Actually... I was contemplating a hybrid solution of what both of you guys suggested.
I was thinking of using a battery disconnect switch between the ignition fuse and the fuse box. I'd have to find a hidden place for it, like under the seat.
I looked at a couple rated over 50 Amps, the ignition fuse is only 30 Amps.

Ideas?
