Quick update on these mudflaps, I have purchased both Gatorback and Weathertech mudflaps. Unfortunately both have their issues, here is why.
Gatorback (One of the most popular install for F150)
- Install is about 20mins per wheel, looks very beefy and sturdy. It combines metal sheet and rubber flaps for its construction.
- Great for guarding the dirt and snow, nothing will get splashed onto the power step control arms.
- Black Powder coat on the front flap came off after 2nd pressure wash. (wtf?)
- Sucks for fitting, my wheels grinds the front flaps when I'm about 50% turned on each side. The flap is just too thick for the stock wheel, I even have a slightly smaller set of wheels as well, and yet it still touch and grind it, eventually the rubber part of the flaps become loose after too many "hits" by the wheel. I had to take it off because I'm sick of the grinding sound whenever 50% turned.
- For the price tag, I'm not happy with the result.
Weathertech:
- Easy install, 10mins per wheel, looks thin but its plastic, don't expect too much
- No fitting issues, my wheels are no longer grinding the flaps when I'm turning.
- good price, cheap enough to just have it for now.
- Problem with this design is the flaps too short, it will not guard the power step control arms from dirt and snow. I wish this design is longer so it will actually protect all the splash for the control arms, I have crap load of snow splashed onto the front and back control arms, not sure how the F their engineer designed this product without actually driving the product under real weather condition. Unfortunately I do not believe this flap will do much but more of a look.
