Spongy Brake Pedal

The other morning. I was leaving my house, going slow on my street (20-25mph) and a dog ran out in front of me. I nailed the brake and it felt like a sponge and didn't immediately grab the brakes. They did work but it seemed like it slowed down in the same spongy manner. The 2nd press of the pedal a little further down the street was better...

Earlier this year I flushed all the old brake fluid and bled the system really well. All the pads look great and the calipers are not leaking.

What could it be? Booster, Master Cylinder, Rubber Brake lines?

If you are absolutely sure that there is no air in the system, then I would look to the booster / master. Look for fluid coming out of the back of the master. If it's dry then it could be the booster or the booster check valve.

The booster and check valve are easily checked with a 'mity-vac' style vacuum pump.

Never thought of that. I'll check my mityvac book for instructions to check the booster and check valve....
