Hey,

can anybody help me? My 2000 Expedition 5.4, 78ooo miles just had the alternator and battery replaced (I jumpstarted another car - I will never do it again...). Now all of the sudden it does not want to start when it is parked on a hill (and I think rain seems to make the situation worse). The only way to start is is turn the key and give full gas. If it is parked in our (even) driveway it can rain and snow and it starts no problem. Once it is running it drives like normal, traffic lights or stop signs are no problem neither...does anybody have an idea what this might be?
Thanks

Let me guess, the front of the truck is in a downward position.... This is completely normal from what iwas told. All of the gas runs to the front and if you have less than a half of a tank it will not crank. Our tanks are long and narrow, and that has a lot to do with it.

it is not a really steep hill though and the tank was full... and I parked at the same spot for months and I never had that problem....

It could be that your Idle Speed Control is going out. I just replaced mine. My truck would just turn over but wouldnt crank. The part only cost me like 57.00 from Napa. Here is a way to test it. Next time your truck wont crank. Pop the hood open the plastic cover. Look for the little silver cylinder with 2 wires coming from it , tap on it then try to crank it.

The only other thing i can think of would be fuel pump. When it wont crank if you turn the key on do you hear the pump cut on.

May be someone else will chime in cause im no mechanic.

funny story...I went out one morning, first time all year its below freezing and my truck wont start....parked on a little bit of an incline...nose down...would start to crank then shut off...turns out when its cold out you need to keep a little bit more gas in there than you do in the summer....stupid me!!

Had my truck in the shop and they replaced the Idle Air Control Valve. They told me to use fuel cleaner more often and I will definitely do that from now on. The truck has been running great since then.
