Storage area in center armrest

When the center armrest is lifted, there is an area under the lid. What is its main purpose? Just storage? Handgun holder?

Storage. There are built-in safes available to convert the space to store a firearm.

Are you talking about the square with the slot on the underside of the lid. If so it is designed to fit a specific size tissue box. Seriously.
