2009 Ford Expy XLT, 4WD, 285K miles. Trans is starting to slip/stutter at all shift points. Filter change at 225K. I could address the common problem ms and swap out the torque converter, lead rail, and rebuild the valve body but am thinking of just swapping in a used, lower mileage transmission.

Question: What issues am I’m looking at with swapping in a 2012-2014 6R180? I’d also buy the Trans ECM from the donor vehicle.

Thanks in Advance for your replies / input.

The 6R80 had a major redesign in 2010, for the 2011 MY. New valve body, computer, One-Way Clutch, etc.....
May work with the new trans computer (computer is w/ valve body), but because it's a complete new design, don't know if the PCM will have issues with adapting the different transmission.

Not sure if is/isn't compatible with the PCM, but to be safe I would order one either from an 09 or early build 2010.
It might've been redesigned Mid-2010 production, not sure. But i know that early build 2010's had the non-redesigned trans.

Your 09 has the transmission control module inside the transmission on the lead frame. The later transmissions have the transmission module incorporated into the PCM. It will not swap and work. Best to rebuild or replace your transmission.
