I have a 2004 Eddie Bauer and I am having some type of elec. problem. I had a diagnostic done on it 6 months ago and they told me that the VSM module was bad. I took it in to have it replaced and they changed it out and that did not fix the problem. The reason that they said that it was the VSM is because when the door is open it shows that it is closed so the back hatch stays locked, the radio does not go off, the the door switches do not work and the dusk lights do not come on at dusk. When they look at the codes on the system it shows a U1262 and U1950, the ford dealership that I took it to is at a loss. I need to find out what I need to do to get it all working again. If anyone can help me out that would be great.

Both of those codes come up as communication faults - not specific to any module or any of the three busses in use. In your case it is probably the UBP bus.

What the hell does that mean? In simple terms there is a mini internet in the vehicle that is having trouble communicating with the various modules the Expy has on it. This can occur from harness damage, failed terminating resistors at each end of the network bus.

Has anything electrical been added to the car that someone has cut or spliced into an existing electrical harness?

There are specifications that the communication bus must adhere to or issues arise. Any decent mechanic in today's environment should be able to tell basic info concerning the bus.

For giggles check fuses in the central junction box: #5 - #6 - #30 - #40. These supply power to the vsm.

replaced

The only change that I had to make was to replace a window switch on the drivers side, but that was a couple of years ago.

You may have to get into the wiring harness There are splices that have been known to get wet and corrode This could be the cause of your problem There are two areas where the splices are located one is near the drivers side seat and the other is on the passenger side Check the attached link.

Is it just when you open the driver's door ? Does the radio shut off when you turn the key off and open just the passenger's door ? If so, it's probably just the driver's door latch switch gone bad. It's located inside the door, attached to the mechanical latch. It's a pretty common failure.

And where it mounts at the base of the door latch ....

If you have a bluetooth scantool, you can try the app Forscan, free on Windows and 5 bucks on Android/iOS. It can tell you specifically which module that throws what code, which would be extremely helpful in troubleshooting the U1950 and U1262 you're getting.

Check the red white splice---passenger side door sill. Could also be a purple wire. Maybe anywhere bad. But some have found under driver's side door sill so start there. Those a re the two main wires I have read cause the issue. Same problem. Hoping to get it fixed this weekend!!!

Hey New2Expeditions, you may want to check the date on threads before replying. This one has been inactive since 2016. Plus the OP disappeared in 2016.
