I've had my Expy for about 2 1/2 years. It has Sync with voice activated navigation. When I go to the Sync web page it tells me "Now, you’re running the fastest, simplest and best version of SYNC." ... Well, that's great, I guess. But how can that be? I have a smart phone (droid), and I use Google Maps on it. Google Maps update about once a month, if not more often. Why doesn't Sync update their base maps? If my $100 phone can do it, why can't my $50,000 vehicle do as well?

if you register at the ford owner website it will tell you if your sync system needs an update. I just did mine, just need a usb drive to do it (my upgrade was more feature based than maps, so i apologize if this doesnt solve your specific map issue).

I guess you missed the part where I said I logged in to Ford/sync page, which told me I had the latest update. Problem is, base maps get updated continuously. 2 1/2 years without any software updates is pathetic!

Hi FisherPete,

Like dmercer3 mentioned, Ford periodically provides software updates for the SYNC system through your account at: www.support.ford.com These updates do not include improvements to navigation map content.

Map updates are handled by a company called HERE. Check to see if an update is available for your Expedition by going to: GPS Navigation System | HERE | Navigation.com and filling in the make, model, and year of your vehicle. The website will provide the most recent map version along with pricing information.

I hope this helps!

So you have 3 things going on here....

Sync is it's own system, nothing to do with the navigation updates. The last update for my 2013 was back in Jan of 2013. Ford has zero interest in keeping older sync systems up to date. Ford has all but said they have no actual intention of supporting and growing sync other than as a marketing ploy (see post from "ford" below).

The navigation DVD has updates available annually for a cost. The problem is by the time they publish, burn and send the DVD it's obsolete. I unfortunately have ford's ****** navigation system only because in 2013 it was bundled with the power running boards and sunroof. I have used the navigation system MAYBE 15 times in the 2 years I've owned this truck, it's slow to react, in-accurate and didn't operate in motion without a lock pick. Google maps is the only way to go. If you don't want google go with Garman, that is the one thing Chrysler did right in their navigation systems. Ford could take a lesson from them there.

Third 50,000 dollars? The limiteds are not even close to 50,000 dollars...My king Ranch 4x4 with every option wasn't close to 50,000. At least make the post somewhat truthful.

I have checked the support.ford.com site many times. It's a dead zone ... there has never been an update and it tells me I am using the latest version.

Where on the FORD site is there a link to the map site? Shouldn't Ford be responsible for the updates? (Have you ever owned a smart phone? That's how it should work.)

As for what I paid, I am not lying. I have every option except remote start ... price it for yourself before getting in my face about it.

OK, so I went to Navigation.com Ford Sync Map Update ... and guess what? $150! Pass. The free nav software on the phone is far superior to anything I've seen built in to the rig.

This page provides information about updating the navigation maps: https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync...ions/updating-your-navigation-system-map.html

You'll also see information about map updates on page 121 of your Navigation Supplement, which can be found here: http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/catalog/owner_guides/12ngnsn3e.pdf

If the navigation on your phone is working well for right now, you can certainly hold off on updating. Just keep in mind that these updates are available if you decide to purchase in the future.

Let me know if any other questions come up.

Kim
