Sync updates

Last week, I purchased a used 2014 Limited. And I'm really enjoying it. So comfortable and 'luxury'.

Today, I set up an account on owner.ford.com and learned Sync needed an update and this should be done in the dealership.

on a Sync Gen 1 system at 4.2.1.4 version, is a dealership actually needed to update to 4.6?

Basically you would format a USB drive to FAT32 and then extract all the files into the empty drive. Again I haven't tried it yet but there are a few threads on how to do it, here's one: https://www.f150forum.com/f38/sync-update-worked-343852/

I'm not even sure these updates will work with our system, but they all say "SYNC Gen 1."
