I have a 2011 EL Limited and have the common issue of the trim eating through my tailgates paint. I recently painted it and am wondering what I can do to prevent the paint from being damaged again.

The rear hatch on my 2011 was pretty nice when i bought it 3 yrs ago. It is now becoming a bubble fest.Ford has been aware of the aluminum panel corrosion (not caused by the attached trim) for decades: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10177863-0001.pdf
I bought a new 2015 Expedition Limited and the corrosion began on the rear hatch, and the hood. For that year model corrosion warranty, the corrosion had to fully penetrate the panel, causing a hole. My dealer would not repair the corrosion under the new car warranty.
I know you have a 2011 model - so the repairs are on you.
When behind older Expedition models, look closely at the rear hatch. The corrosion is very common.
Although Ford was aware of the aluminum corrosion for years, they did nothing to prevent or stop it.
