Hello all

First let me say that this forum has been extremely helpful for other tasks so thank you

Now this is my moms Expedition. Took it to Advance Auto Parts. Had them read the code which was "EGR valve insufficient flow". Took that all apart and cleaned out the clogged ports with TB cleaner and wire coat hanger. Put everything back together. Now when I start it up it only lasts two seconds before it stalls out. If I hit the gas a little bit the engine doesn't die. Please help!

Also this might be noteworthy, I didn't disconnect the battery (idk if that matters) and while going to put it in neutral to push it out of the garage my ******* turned the key all the way and started it for like half a second with the entire throttle body off...

Thanks for your help. I am still learning about whats under the hood.

check your vacuum hoses you may have missed something also make sure you plugged all connectors in correctly and that they are fully connected

Everything is plugged in, connected, and fitting tight. I researched the symptoms more and they seem to be consistent with an IAC that needs to be cleaned/replaced. Let me know if that sounds like a possibility. Thanks for the replies!

This is a video on youtube that is exactly what I'm experiencing.

that's possible Didn't you clean the IAC when you did the throttle body??

Did you remove the throttle from the engine when you cleaned out the EGR ports??

It sounds more like a vac leak than an IAC valve. Like a PCV line that isn't connected or a vac reference line unplugged.

Yep I removed the throttle. My main concern was clearing the EGR ports and by the time I was happy with those I had used all of the TB cleaner I had. I actually didn't plan on even looking at the IAC. I'm going to try and clean it best I can tomorrow after I get some more TB cleaner and see if that works. If not RockAuto will ship a new one to my house for 40 dollars, seems worth replacing the old one even if its not the problem.

As for the connections, I'm pretty sure everything is plugged in real tight. But now that I think about it there is the connection in the air intake tube closest to the latch to the air filter housing that I might have tugged a little too hard trying to remove. I'll check that tomorrow to see if its loose.

Thanks again for the help

Problem solved thank you for the help. Idling perfectly at 700 rpms.

Went to Advance auto parts this morning and picked up a new IAC and dielectric grease. The new IAC was 47 dollars and it came with a new gasket. Besides the inside being new and shiny I noticed that there was a spring in the new one which was missing in the old one. Also when I was putting the dielectric grease on the connectors I noticed that one of them on the intake tube needed to be pushed down further and I actually had to put my hand in the tube and push up to get it to click in the fastener. So I'm not sure if it was the IAC or that connector that was the problem but I'm happy to have the new IAC either way.

Still got the service engine soon light though....

Thanks again!

Thanks for the update It may have been a combination of the items you mentioned.

Disconnect the battery for about 20 minutes that should reset the PCM and clear the CEL. If the CEL comes back on take it and have the codes read and post them on the forum.
You will get some good help from people on here .

Its always a good idea to check the electrical connectors and apply dielectric grease when reinstalling them

The washer fluid alert is excessively whiny on these trucks, I think.

Also be aware that once you have completed a repair the CEL will reset itself after a number of drive cycles. Learned that one myself back in the day while waiting for my first OBD scanner to arrive via UPS. Went to clear all codes and reset the CEL in triumph only to find the truck had beat me to it.

Very true But what happens if it doesn't clear itself?? By disconnecting the battery you are just lending a helping hand and if the CEL does reappear you will just know sooner

Agree about the washer fluid alert

If you disconnect the battery for at least 30min and it doesn't reset then it may be that the problem is significant enough the ecu picks it up a soon as it has power.
