Hello, all me and my wife just purchased a 2005 ford expediton eddie bower with the 5.4l in it. This vehicle has 88k on it. We just got it back from the shop today. After we had it over the weekend it decided to knock in reverse and killed on me once. I brought it back with the check enginge light on and The dealer ship i bought it from sent it to ford for it to be check out. They determined it was 2 timing peaces and the replaced it. And then the check engine light came back out and it was low voltage so the dealership replaced the alternator now that i have the truck back. I notices a ticking noise coming from the steering column when ever I press the brakes in reverse mainly and also does it sometimes in park and neutral. When you shift into reverse it ticks for a second and then when you let go of the break it makes another lighter tick. Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks

Im guessing it's the brake interlock relay. If you're in park, it should sound every time you push and let go of the brake pedal. It stops you from shifting into drive or reverse without having your foot on the brake.

Mine does this too. I've had it for 6yrs and it's always done it intermittently.

It's a relay ....I just keep waiting for it to break so I don't have to rack my head figuring out where it is and what it does.

It only happens about once every 6mths.

Maybe after this post it will break tomorrow and the suspense will be over...lol
