i have a 99 expo with the 4.6 2wd. i love this thing, the only thing that i have wrong with it is the air ride and the annoying ticking.
a couple years ago when it was around 160-170,000 miles you could hear a faint ticking while driving through town when you would drive by a curb.
then when winter came it would knock for about 30 seconds to a minute or two of idling. then it would stop.
now is has 219,*** on it and i am afraid that it will not last through the winter.
the ticking used to sound like an exhaust leak, but now i am not sure.
when i put a stethoscope on the passenger side, the knock is the loudest on the #2 fuel injector, but is clearer on #1 on the passenger side.
i do have several codes thrown, there is a lack of exhaust gas return to the egr (1406), lean bank 1, O2 sensor 1 bank 1 lean reading.
is it possible that the ticking is just the exhaust manifold gasket?

the only mods that i have done to it so far is a glasspack in the stock place of the original muffler.
