So I am gonna get new shocks-more than liely those rancheros? So I crawl under the truck just to have a look around and see this. I know the minute I try to take the old shock off that thing is just gonna crumble apart, the other looks worse. So I went and got some plate steel, took some measurements and have all the pieces I need ready to be welded up to make a new bracket, then I will just have that welded to the frame.

I used some posterboard and got all the measurements and made a bracket. then took all the pieces and traced them onto the steel and cut the peices, the side pieces flare out from the front to the frame, in other words the brackets width is wider at the back where it mounts to the frame of the truck than it is at the front. I will make a "jig" out of wood to simulate that angle as well as the depth between the front piece of steel and the next piece in that the shock will mount between

Nice that looks good man. I live in MN so I know what you mean with the salt eating away the metal. I have Rancho's in all 4 corners of the truck and I like them so far, they have been in there for about 3 months or so though, so i dont have much long term to say about them.

Hey Jay . . just curious if you have considered having all that sandblasted just before welding the new piece in place, then prime the bloody hell out of everything and paint enamel?

Not really, My dad has car lot in NH so I got the truck with 94K on it for $1900 at the auction. My ultimate goal is to get another, low mileage from the south, like texas or something. I will only keep it another 2 years max (I think) I would think if i brought it someplace to be sandblasted that it would get EVERYWHERE.

I would still atleast prime the pieces you are putting in there. Its cheap insurance.

Oh definately, I am going to have them welded up, then grind down the welds, prime, paint with rustoleum or something then bring them to mount on the truck then install the shocks

Here is what I came up with, I had them all welded together then drilled the hole that the shock bolt will go through then primed and coated with that Rustoleum bed liner

For some reason in the pic they look lop sided but they are straight- bad camera angle
