Tips for cleaning engine

I have a collection of oil and coolant sitting in the valley between the heads and when i'm running the engine it smokes quite a bit and some drips down to the ground making me think I have an oil leak. This fluid is from the tear down not a leak. It pooled when I took the valve covers off and ran it without the restrictor to see if it was getting good oil flow and the coolant when I took the upper radiator hose off.

Is there a recommended way to clean off the top of the engine without causing issues? It's coil packs not cops - so I figured if I just put the hose under the intake and turned it on slowly I could flush that out without flooding the spark plug wells but wanted to be safe and ask the experts.

I also don't have a shop-vac to use to suck it out, nor do I have an air compressor to blow it out.

Any suggestions?

I would get a water hose and flush the mixture out then use the engine heat to "boil it off" it may not get hot enough to boil but 195deg is plenty warm enough to evaporate it. I've washed my 4.6 a couple times with a 1500 psi washer and it did fine. just be mindful of the alternator and throttle areas.

before you start do a "clear flood" start. pull your floor mat from under the throttle if it is there. then put the throttle to 100% and then put the key in and try to start it while holding the throttle wide open. if it fires first time just release the throttle, if it just turns over let it go about twice as long as it would normally take to start then release the throttle while still starting. it should fire and run. your belt will squall when the fan kicks in or the alternator begins to get a load until the belt dries.
