towing Q's

my expi has a hitch w/ wireing so it must have come that way when purchased so does that meen it has a tow pakage and what amount would that be?
it is a 2004 XLT 4x4 with the ( i believe) 4.7 Lt

If you bought it used, the previous owner could have had the hitch installed without the factory tow package. Is the trailer connection a 4 pin or 7 pin? And the engine would either be a 4.6 or a 5.4 (it will say it on the top of the engine cover).
As far as the towing capacity, it would depend on engine and whether or not it has the tow package. With the 5.4 and tow package, it will tow 8600 with a weight dist hitch, or 6000 without it. I'm not sure about the 4.6, but the manual will say what it is (if you have one).

Didn't all Expys come with some sort of hitch and wiring. In the manual, on page 239, it says this:

Your vehicle is equipped with heavy duty trailer tow wiring. An electrical
connector is provided under the instrument panel for installing a
customer-supplied electric brake controller. A Class I (4–pin) electrical
connector and Class II/III/IV (7–pin) electrical connector are provided at
the hitch.

On the following page, there is the table of what you can tow.

Not too sure if all Expys come with a hitch or not. Typically if you have the Towing Pkg you get a 7-pin adapter. If it's a 4-pin it is usually aftermarket or just a factory installed hitch without the HD tow pkg.
