I recently acquired a 32 ft travel trailer. The trailer weighed in at 7800lb at the cat scale loaded. It has a dry weight of 7125. I have an 05 Expy with the HD tow package. Ford says it has 8950lb tow rating with a weight dist. hitch. Just curious if anyone out there has a similar setup or does any towing of a similar rig. Is it really practical or not enough truck.

Thanks

If your comfortable with towing that length I would say your weights look in specs.
Personally I would tow that length with a Expedition. Others will disagree.
I would also make sure you have sway control installed at least on one side but would be better on both sides.

You say the TT has a dry weight of 7125 and when weighed it was 7800 I am sure the gross weight of the TT is higher and that would mean you can add more cargo and then that will put you closer to the tow rating.

When you weighed at the CAT scales did you check the weight on the axels. Or did you just weight the TT

It was weighed with a different tow vehicle. I had my friend pull it home with his 3/4T truck. We sort of inherited the TT. Expy is not set up yet. I have to add the brake controller, and plan to add a second sway control as well as a set of Rancho Quick lift coil overs with the dial adjust shocks. Which would give me about 1in. Lift and enable me to stiffen the rear suspension when towing. To avoid bottoming out issues

It should be scary.
What is your towing experience?
The Terry has a Gross weight of 9500 lbs Which means you have plenty of room for gear and over time you will add more weight.

Just my opinion but you will be close to the combined weigh limit of the Expy. I would say that your friends 3/4 truck handled the Terry very well I would also bet that with the Expy you will have many white knuckle times towing that combination.

i have towed a 23' for years. We just bought the Expy and as I said kinda inherited the TT. So not sure what I'll do. Thanks for the info.

That's good that you have some experience towing. At least you know the effects of being passed by a semi and how it can cause sway and cross winds. If it were me I would consider something with more power and higher payload. But then your not me. I currently tow a 25 ft TT with my 2001 expy It does the job but I would feel better if I had the Excursion with at least the V10 or even a diesel engine.

Check your axel weights with the TT connected to the Expy and look at the figures.

Wish you all the best and hope you get to enjoy the Terry
