I currently own a 97 EB, 4WD with 330K and it's still going, but desperately need to upgrade. I have an opportunity to purchase an 06 EB 2WD with 65K for $16,000.

The problem is I tow heavy loads and this EB doesn't have the factory H/D towing option. I understand that the drive train, suspension is identical? True/false. What other than the lack of trailer wiring is different? Oil/AT cooler? Radiator?

This 06 is super clean and priced right, but I really need the extra towing capacity. Can the missing items be added aftermarket with factory like results?

Thanks

Oil/AT cooler? Radiator? You hit the nail on the head, the Rad is heavy duty, and you could always add the oil and AT cooler to the new rig, I know the newer X's have a better towing rating, at least the ones with tow package do. I am not sure about the trans on the non tow package models, or the 2wd as far as what they are rated for, and what type of trans they have.

the susension is a lot different. the 1st gens use torsion bars for 4wd or coils and shocks for the front on 2wds. the rear ends are solid axle with link coils. while on all 4 corners of the 2nd and 3rd gens there are struts. and what engine for the 06 have?

This man is correct, I really only know about the capabilities on the gen1 X's, I guess a gen 2 or 3 expert would be a better person to ask than me, but panda does know his stuff as well.

hey thanks. i do try most of the time. i sit around my expedition enough and read off road magizines and just do anything with heavy trucks and what not. but any who. i am not a 2nd or 3rd gen expert in any way. the basics i do know. and if it dosent have the hd package dont worry as long as your not towing a super heavy trailer over long distances or up any long steep grades for most of the trip. mine has towed a toy hauler full of desert toys to the desert with no trailer brakes. my dads an idiot some times. but we never tow trailers with brakes. the rotors were red and steaming when we made it back to my uncles house after the trip.
