transfer case 2000 expedition

When starting off from a stop it sounds like the transmission or transfer case is slipping, can you rebuild the bearings in a transfer case. If so, is this really expensive?? Mechanic says will be around 800 bucks! I have 200,000 miles on the truck and want to keep it on the road!! Any help would be appreciated!

You can but I recomm and a rebuilt one or brand new one with a warranty
